拳擊手大衛?科登（Jamie Smith 飾）獨自住在一間簡陋的公寓出租房內，窗戶對麵住著一個美麗的舞女格蘿蕾拉（Irene Kane 飾），大衛漸漸為之所吸引。
某晚大衛比賽歸來，突然發現格蘿蕾拉正要被人強暴，他衝進去拯救了心上人。原來強暴者是格蘿蕾拉所在夜總會的老板（Frank Silvera 飾），為了生計不得不忍辱負重。兩個失意之人情誼相合，遂約定離開傷心地，尋找他們的幸福。大衛外出籌集旅費，而夜總會老板在得知格蘿蕾拉即將離開的消息時勃然大怒，派出打手綁架了她……
本片榮獲1959年洛迦諾國際電影節最佳導演獎。
