1987年的某個夜晚，張皇失措的賽斯·漢普頓（Graham Skipper 飾）驅車來到好朋友馬克·費舍（Josh Ethier 飾）的家，他語無倫次，聲稱不久前天上出現一道藍光，將他們的另一個好朋友羅伯帶走了。馬克起初並不太相信賽斯的說詞，誰知突然之間全城大停電，窗外亮起炫目的藍光，並伴隨著尖利刺耳的聲響，混亂中馬克仿佛被控製了一般，他推門走了出去，再也沒有回來。在此之後，藍光事件在派頓市引起不小的騷亂，而賽斯也成為羅伯和馬克失蹤案的嫌疑人受到指控。兩年過後，馬克的女友簡·克萊文（Vanessa Leigh 飾）交到新男友，正準備展開新生活，而賽斯依然被當年的經曆和噩夢所困擾。毫無征兆的一天，大停電再度發生，而消失已久的馬克驚現叢林，但這絕不是賽斯熟悉的朋友……
