故事發生在奧地利維也納，丘托克（阿道夫·門吉歐 Adolphe Menjou 飾）雖然迎娶了年輕美貌的妻子米琪（瑪麗·普雷沃斯特 Marie Prevost 飾），但他的婚姻生活卻並不幸福，因為米琪是一個水性楊花的女人，結婚沒多久就移情別戀了。米琪喜歡的是自己的好友夏洛特（Florence Vidor 飾）的丈夫弗蘭茨（蒙蒂·布盧 Monte Blue 飾），對他百般引誘，而丘托克決定將此作為提出離婚的絕佳契機，於是雇傭了私家偵探（哈利·邁耶斯 Harry Myers 飾）想要得到米琪出軌的證據。
夏洛特當然明白米琪的狼子野心，於是對她處處提防，而因為米琪的介入，她和弗蘭茨之間的感情也漸漸出現了裂痕。終於，在一次激烈的爭吵後，弗蘭茨選擇了離家出走。
